Q:“Are we (each individual person) suppose to type the answers to the problem set and submit them via this "wikispaces"? Or should we just type it and hand it in during class time?”; "Are we supposed to turn in a copy of COMPLETED problem set before the beginning of the class?” A: The assignment includes two parts: 1. Individual work:
Each student needs to work on each problem set and minute paper individually and submit a printed copy to me in the classroom, not via “wikispaces.com”, at the end of each class. This is mainly for evaluation of class attendance and for me to know how much you have worked on this course each day. 2. Team work:
Each LG is required to provide the solutions to the problems with their names attached at psw481.wikispaces.com. The solutions will be used as references for other students in the class.
Q: "How do we post questions and answers?" "Should I create a new account (at wikispaces.com)?" A: If you just upload your homework, no userID and password are needed. Go to http://psw481.wikispaces.com and following the steps below:
1. Go to the page you want to add your text. 2. Click “edit” at the right upper corner
3. Concisely answer the question. Even just a couple of key words.
a. PLease just type your words and don't use the "copy" and "paste" functions.
b. Always answer the question concisely, even just with a few key words for hints, as other stduents do not have time to read lengthy text.
4. Proofread your text.
5. Press the “SAVE” button.
6. Please let em know if you have any questions.
P.S. If you need help, you can try:
1. Contact wikispaces.com
2. Press the "Help" button on the top of your screen.
3. Contact me at jonathan.sheng@mcphs.edu or at X-5717.
4. Finally, you can also send your solution file (pdf or Microsoft Word) directly to me and I will help you to solve your technical problem or directly forward your file to the class promptly.
Q: "Where should we be looking for the information for the problem sets?" A: Chapters 27 and 28, Foye’s should cover most questions. Answers to some chemistry questions can be found in any chemistry textbooks, and they will not be tested in Exam I, if they are not covered by Foye’s.
Q: "Will we go over the correct answers in class that day before turning it in? Is there guarantee that the answers posted online by the learning groups will be correct. Will you be grading each of our problem sets/online question for right/wrong answers or is it essentially a completion grade for attendance?"; "Are you just collecting problem sets for purposes of attendance?" A: The purpose is to use the website to facilitate student-student interactions and critical thinking. Students need to figure out themselves whether the answers posted online by the learning groups are correct or not. Some questions will be discussed in class, and for this semester, I would like to see how individual students work on the problem sets and therefore class attendance is the main and ONLY purpose of mine.
Q: "At http://psw481.wikispaces.com, is this one answer per learning group or is each individual supposed to be submitting an anwer to their assigned question?" A: Teamwork. One answer from the whole LG to help other students for exam preparation. This has to be done as a group by the end of the due day so that other people in the class can have the answer promptly.
